I'm currently reading " American Son" by Brian Ascalon Roley, the story is about a Filipino family growing up in the slums of California. in this family there is a mother and two sons, one son named Tomas and another named Gabe. Tomas in the bad one, he helps pay the mortgage by selling attack dogs to rich people and celebrities. He Also is apart of an Mexican gang, even though he is he is Filipino his arms are covered in Mexican gang tattoos. No one knows Tomas is Asian by the way he dresses, he has a shaved head, wear white beaters, cargo's, and converse like an Mexican gangster in the time period of the book so everyone including his fellow gangs members think he is Mexican.
       Subjects like this, happens all around the world. People try to be things they aren't to try and impress others. By Tomas trying to be something he's not shows this. Many people are under the impression that they have to act like something they are not to be excepted in the world. i think people should just be who they are and not care about if they are excepted by a certain group of people i think that Tomas should of excepted the fact that he is Asian not Mexican and not try to impress anyone.
