follow up on the Help

On my last post I promised a follow up on '' The Help'' by Kathyrn Sockett and here it is. while reading the book i came across an outstandingly ignorant commit that was made by one of the white mothers in the book that stood out to me. So we know the book takes place in the early 60's were segragation was still a huge factor and black maids were still working and raising children in white households. So in the south it is common for friends to come along and eat finger foods etc, Like a party.
         So at one of these party's one of the mothers said " I dont let my maid use my family restroom they carry many more diseases then we do so im getting one built outside." This comment is very ignorant and full of stupidity. When i read this sentence i had to read it over to make sure it said what i thought it said. This comment of course isnt true,  but it makes the theme of inequality stand out 100 times more. this comment makes the feel of the boook alot better more realistic how it was like for maids in this time period.
          Another thing that stood out to me that aibleen ( main maid) has taken almost 20 years of her life to take care of the house and raise other peoples children, while her children are out barely seeing her own children who she is surpossed be taking care of instead of others. So far this book is very good and is a eye popper. stay tuned for my next follow up about ''The Help''
